SPLINTERS

Festival favourite Thom Fitzgerald (Cloudburst) returns to Ottawa with his latest, a film exploring sexual identity and small-town life.

Splinters follows Belle who returns home to rural Nova Scotia after the death of her father. Having come out as a lesbian to her conservative parents as a teenager she must now navigate a secret she has been keeping. A secret named Rob; her boyfriend of two years. Reluctant to rekindle her mother's traditional expectations, she asserts her identity, only to have everything unravel when Rob shows up to support her.

Based on the stage play by Lee-Anne Poole, Splinters is anchored by the rich and layered performances of Sofia Banzhaf and Shelley Thompson as two strong-willed women with a complicated history.
