WARNING: Mature language and sexual content... but that's just more reason to come see the show, right? SHORT AND SWEET SYNOPSIS: ~Della is legendary for baking mouth-watering cakes—she’s even won a spot on the Great American Baking Show! So she’s overjoyed when Jen, the young woman she helped raise, returns home to Winston-Salem and requests a wedding cake. But our star baker is forced to re-examine some of her deeply held beliefs when she finds that Jen’s intended is actually another woman. She can’t really bake a cake for such a wedding, can she? ~ SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY: Proceeds from the opening night production of The Cake will be going to the Sarnia Pride and Transgender Association. Get your tickets now while they last! RICHER SYNOPSIS: ~The right to refuse service to members of the LGBTQ community in some states in the U.S, has become explosive, going all the way to the Supreme Court, where the issue has still not been resolved. The Cake, by Bekah Brunstetter ( writer for the TV show, This Is Us ) digs into this conflict. In whittling it down to human connections, it welcomes audiences to see Della ( Ruth Francoeur) the baker in the story, as a real person, even if they disagree with the religious convictions that prevent her from baking a cake for a lesbian couple. Jen (Lauren Solski ) returns to her North Carolina home to plan her wedding to New York journalist Macy (Allison Virtue). Her mother has passed away and she wants, more than anything, to feature a cake from her mom's best friend, Della, so that a part of her mom will be in attendance. While Della has always adored Jen, she also believes that by making a cake for the wedding, she would be endorsing homosexuality, which she believes is a sin. This rift devastates Jen and puts a strain on her relationship with Macy. Della has her own marital issues with her husband, Tim (Joe Agocs) who hasn't made love to her in years. Della battles her personal and professional demons and attempts to figure out what a good Christian woman should do. There is also a hilarious cameo from Carl Bruckman who plays a voice from a British Bake Off Show. ~ SHOW DATES: Tuesday, April 30th @ 7:30pm Wednesday, May 1st @ 7:30pm Thursday, May 2nd @ 7:30pm Friday, May 3rd @ 7:30pm   Theatre Forty Two QueerEvents America/Toronto public
