Minority stress is a unique experience that oppressed peoples, such as queer and transfolk, carry the burden of, and mindfulness can assist in the development of resilience to the challenges of living in a cisheteronormative world. We will also explore the concept of self-compassion, which is a method of developing a kind awareness in the face of difficulties, increasing emotional resilience and allowing us to be present for life’s challenges. This FREE session will be led by Kody Carlson, a researcher in the area of mindfulness meditation, and Regional HIV/AIDS Connection's own Gay Men's HIV Prevention Worker, as well as Victor Feunekes, our GayBiMSM & Youth Sexual Health Educator and a mindfulness enthusiast. It will be hosted at Moksha Yoga London downtown. Open to all gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit and queer male identified individuals! Prior meditation experience is not necessary. Hope to see you there :) For more information, contact Kody at kcarlson@hivaidsconnection.ca or call 519.434.1601 ext. 250.
