Queer women didn't always get to see themselves reflected on screen but following events like Stonewall, the feminist movement, and the surge of experimental cinema in the 1970s, a trailblazing group of women ceased opportunity, transforming the social imagination about queerness. Charting these early days of the movement through to today, we get an in-depth look at the women who built visibility from the ground up, one film at a time.

Filmmakers and critics including Barbara Hammer, Rose Troche, Cheryl Dunye, Desiree Akhavan, B. Ruby Rich, and Jenni Olson chart this exciting history, showing the impact queer women made by unapologetically expressing their identity on screen.
