Event Description

Tree Reading Series is a monthly event dedicated to promoting and developing Ottawa's literary community. On May 28, Tree is hosting the Ottawa launch of renowned Canadian poet and editor John Barton's prose collection "We Are Not Avatars: Essays, Memoirs, Manifestos". In this collection, Barton's 25 year career in Canadian letters comes to life against a backdrop of pivotal changes in queer life.

Our evening begins with a poetry workshop led by John Barton from 7-8pm on the sonnet. Everyone is welcome, no experience or registration required.

The main event begins at 8pm, with a 30 minutes open mic, where audience members are welcome to share their poetry, followed by our featured readers, David Brennan (from Ottawa StoryTellers) and John Barton.

Tree takes place at Happy Goat Coffee Company in Hintonburg (35 Laurel Street).
