Many who ignited and keep fighting for our rights and liberation have been silenced or ignored, and continue to be. Those that were out and lived throught he 90s experienced the peak of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the traumas of friends and communities lost and torn apart, and became unsure of their own futures as LGBTQ+ people. Even now, in the face of climate crisis and shifting social climates, we remain unsure. Over 70% of trans people fear they will die young, even still. Where are our elders? What kind of futures can we create for ourselves? FUTURE PRISMS // QUEER FUTURISM provides a means to change that - to imagine a world beyond what we currently exist in, to dream what a society that’s more embracing of queer love and diverse gender expression would look like. To make a future for ourselves where the limitations that society places on queer identities are removed, where we're left with people who aren’t so governed by their sexuality or gender expression. In these speculative, imagined futures we can create a space where it’s universally recognised that sexuality is fluid; where society allows disabled bodies to integrate; where gender isn’t policed; where the historic structures of racism have been dismantled. We can make outsiders insiders, and put those characters at the centre of narratives of power rather than endless struggle, allowing them to live out their full potential.WE CAN DREAM IT // WE CAN BE IT What does the future of 2SLGBTQ+ look like? A post-apocalyptic queen of the forest? A sci-fi dream of irredescence and flannel?
